Twisted Pixel Starts Ms. Splosion Man Early Access Program

First, let's pretend I made all the applicable explosion-as-sexual-act jokes required for this post*. Okay, now that that's over with, Twisted Pixel has started an "Early Access Program" for Ms. Splosion Man. Well, they say "Early Access Program," I say open, limited-number beta. Either way, you can get your sploding on with the pink pyro elemental as early as June 6. Just fill out the Early Access Application Survey at Microsoft's developer site and wait for your name to be called. Check it out, if you want to try the game ahead of time.

Now, is it wrong that I kinda want to bang Ms. Splosion Man?

*Except for the one in the above line. Blam!

Follow The Behemoth, Give Chickens To The Needy

'Tis the season for charity. Through the end of November, The Behemoth will be giving chickens to hungry families. For every 4 users who follow @thebehem0th on Twitter or Like the BattleBlock Theater, Alien Hominid, or Castle Crashers Facebook pages, The Behemoth will donate a chicken to a needy family through Heifer International. It's just a few clicks to get some poultry to people who could use it.

And just a reminder, the Child's Play charity is in full swing. Donate toys and money to childrens' hospitals across the country, and help give gamers a good name while doing it! They've already raised nearly half a million dollars, and hope to get $1.2 million in donations by Christmas.

First Infinity Blade Trailer

To be perfectly honest, PSP games don't look this good. This is the latest game from Chair, whose name you may recognize from the brilliant XBLA title Shadow Complex. This is another step in legitimizing iOS devices in the hardcore's eyes. Of course it doesn't matter if the game is no fun to play... (via VG247)

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1: Sonic’s Back, But He Hasn’t Learned Much

Sonic the Hedgehog hasn't had a great decade. After an excellent jump to 3D in 1998, Sega's blue mascot slide straight down the mountain and into a deep, deep chasm. The series got more and more characters and more and more gimmicks, until it eventually forgot that the original games' success came from the speed and flow of running through twisting, branching levels as Sonic the Hedgehog. Not as some tertiary character nobody cares about. Not as part of a team where each member has unique powers. Not as a hedgehog that becomes a monster, or swings a sword. As Sonic.

Sega has finally gotten back to basics with Sonic the Hedgehog 4. No other characters, no gimmicks, no third dimension, just running, jumping, and beating up a fat man in a futuristic Hoveround. It's been released on every home console, plus the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Did Sonic reach a new top speed, or did he run headfirst into some spikes? Find out after the break.

Hydrophobia: Splish, Splash, End (Review)

Hydrophobia is an interesting, divisive game. Some people like it, while others vocally hate it, and a PR disaster in the making isn't doing it any favors. This is a game that's been on my radar for quite some time and one I was very much looking forward to playing. So, was the long wait worth it?

Beyond Good & Evil HD Hitting PSN/XBLA

Who's ready for another HD remakeIGN broke the news that cult classic and critical darling Beyond Good & Evil is also on the docket for a 1080p overhaul. Ubisoft has the remake penciled in for a vague 2011 release, where it will be a download on PSN and XBLA. Second chance, guys! Please buy it this time? I'm afraid BG&E2 may hang in the balance.

Also, HD remakes are officially a trend now. Who needs backwards compatibility?

Review: Blade Kitten

Blade Kitten is an odd little platformer. It looks like a standard fare run-and-slash affair, but it features some interesting design choices that really makes it pop. It’s a downloadable title based on the comic of the same name, and it's made the jump from the web page to PSN, XBLA, and Steam.

Mega Man Universe First Gameplay Trailer

Youtube user GrafWutzenstein has spliced together the gameplay trailers that were sent to IGN, 1UP, and GameSpot. The trailer showcases four of the multiple characters playable in game including MegaMan, RockMan (based on the Japanese boxart), a MegaMan based on the bad box art of the American version of the first game, and Ryu from Street Fighter. The game also includes Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins, though he is not in the trailer. Incidentally, the game looks very much like the stop motion trailer that was released previously. MegaMan Universe is coming out on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Store.

Microsoft bumping Xbox Live Gold to $10/month, $60/year in November

Microsoft's Major Nelson has just announced that Xbox Live will be getting a price increase for its Gold subscriptions. Starting November 1, a 1-month XBL Gold subscription will bump up from $7.99 to $9.99, a 3-month subscription will bump up from $19.99 to $24.99, and a 12-month subscription will bump up from $49.99 to $59.99. Based on some of the responses to Major Nelson's announcement, including a few remarks from players with Gamerscores well over 50,000, people aren't happy about this change.

It's long been the case that clever gamers could find good deals on Xbox Live Gold subscription and Microsoft Points cards. Frankly, if you ever paid the full $50 for a year's subscription, you were taken. Amazon currently offers a 12-month subscription card for $40, $10 less than MSRP and $20 less than the planned price starting in November. Newegg, Fry's Electronics, and even Walmart have similar deals. At worst, we'll see the effective price of a year's subscription move up to the previous $50 standard, and even that's not entirely certain. It'll be a $10/$25/$60 price structure on paper, but not for most players.
