Canon Shows Off Augmented Reality Gaming, Makes Chris Look Silly

I cover a lot of different consumer technology products, and they all usually have their own groups of brands. You don't expect Nintendo to go into HDTVs, you don't expect LG to go into digital cameras, and you don't expect Canon to go into futuristic video games. However, when I attended the CanonEXPO yesterday, that last option is exactly what I saw. Tucked into a corner of the expo was a video game demonstration kiosk for Canon's "Mixed Reality" system. It's a little bit virtual reality, a little bit Playstation Move, and a whole lot of looking like a character from The Lawnmower Man.

Chris and I were invited to play a "game" where we created a cartoon character in virtual reality, using head-mounted displays to watch our creations float before our eyes while we manipulate them with our hands. I sat down and held the display over my eyes, keeping it aligned so I could see through the virtual glasses. They were almost completely clear, but could show computer-generated images on top of the regular view thanks to a small screen and a prism.

Ape Escape for the PS3 coming to the US

Siliconera reports that Gamestop has a listing for an Ape Escape game on the PS3. It's unclear which game it is though, as there are currently 2 Ape Escape game in development: Ape Escape 4 and Ape Escape Fury! Fury!. Ape Escape 4 is the same as previous iterations with you hunting and capturing monkeys, while Fury! Fury! is a Move game. Siliconera notes that Fury! Fury! is further along and more likely the one being referred to.

Splinter Cell Returns To PlayStation 3?

PS3 owners who felt snubbed by Ubisoft opting to not bring Sam Fischer's latest adventure over make have cause to rejoice come November. Siliconera reports TheSixthAxis has found a listing on Amazon France for a PS3 game called Splinter Cell Trilogy. While there is a lack of further information at this time, the most obvious conclusion is that this is the newest title in the Classics HD line, a series of PS2 games remade and remastered in HD. If this is in fact true, it would be the first series that was not a Sony owned property to receive this treatment. There have been two other HD remakes on PS3 thus far: the first is the God of War Collection, which bundles God of War and God of War II; the second is the upcoming Sly Collection, which will bundle Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, along with some additional PlayStation Move based mini-games and will also support 3D. The Sly Collection comes out in October, which would make the timing of the Splinter Cell Trilogy odd, assuming this is more than just a rumor.
