Mega Man Legends 3 Coming To The 3DS
by Will Greenwald

You read that right. You’re not dreaming. It’s not a prank. Mega Man Legends 3 is official, and it’s coming to the Nintendo 3DS. The news was just posted on the Capcom Unity site [via The Mega Man Network], and it says clear as day that a decade after the last Mega Man Legends game was published, the series will finally be getting a new chapter.

TGS 2010: Marvel Vs Capcom 3

HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER! Well, make that two new challengers. Fan favorite Tron Bonne of MegaMan Legends and Wolverine clone* X-23 are joining the fray.

TGS 2010: Dead Rising – Case West
by Davis Emmanuel

In this epilogue DLC for Dead Rising 2, Chuck Greene is joined by a photographer who’s “covered wars, you know.” That’s right; in Dead Rising: Case West, the previous game’s protagonist, Frank West, joins up as another playable character. As you may imagine, the co-op mode now supports one player using Chuck while the other controls Frank. Case West, like Case Zero, will be exclusive to the Xbox 360.

TGS 2010: Asura’s Wrath
by Davis Emmanuel

Oh, wow. Asura’s Wrath is a new franchise coming from Capcom. Developed by CyberConnect2 of .hack and Naruto: Ultimate Ninja fame, this game has you taking the titular role of Asura, a deity (actually, a Hindu god) betrayed by the gods and stripped of his powers. Consumed by his rage, he seeks his revenge on those who wronged him. Yes, this is God of War, Japanese-style with a Hindu theme. As a side note, I would like to point out that this trailer sounds exactly like the ones for the Ultimate Ninja Storm games. All it needed was a kid yelling “Believe it!” And now, cue the Naruto fanboys to say how that phrase was never in the Japanese version and is horrible and wrong.

TGS 2010: Devil May Cry 5 Becomes DmC
by Davis Emmanuel

Looks like those rumors were true. DmC is a reboot of the Devil May Cry franchise, which is why there is no 5 in the title. It is being developed by English developer Ninja Theory, who previously brought us Heavenly Sword and is bring out the Journey to the West-inspired Enslaved later this year. Well, Inafune did say the next Devil May Cry would have a more “western touch”. Maybe turning Dante from a bishounen into a punk was what he meant.

TGS 2010: Suda51 Meets RE4 For Shadows of the DAMNED
by Davis Emmanuel

So, what would happen if you were to take the game auteur sensibilities of the man behind Killer7 and No More Heroes and filtered them through one of the minds behind Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 4? Why, you’d get Shadows of the DAMNED. Shadows of the DAMNED is the Suda51 and Shinji Mikami horror game team-up EA will be publishing next year.

The plot follows professional demon hunter Garcia as he kills citizens of the demon world to save his abducted love, Paula. Considering Suda51 has a hand in the game, it probably gets much, much stranger than that. Shadows of the DAMNED will be coming out on PS3 and 360 in Japan next spring. An American release has yet to be announced.

The Definition Of Injustice

Scott Pilgrim is a fantastic movie packed with video game references and worked on many levels. It made $30 million (half of its production budget) in a month and is already out of most theaters.

Machete is a fun, ridiculous action film that developed an Internet cult following due to Robert Rodriguez’ fake trailer in Grindhouse. It made $20 million over 10 days.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is a giant piece of crap that doesn’t work as an action movie, doesn’t work as a horror movie, certainly doesn’t work as a video game movie, and has almost nothing to do with the video game series from which it takes its name. It made more than $27 million in its opening weekend.

Not much more can be said.

Resident Evil: Afterlife: They Weren’t Even Trying
by Will Greenwald

[This review has spoilers.]

I’m not a huge Resident Evil fan. I honestly haven’t played through any of the games. I enjoyed Paul W.S. Anderson’s first movie, and even found Resident Evil: Apocalypse somewhat enjoyable. I have no emotional investment in Capcom’s survival horror franchise at all. That said, Resident Evil: Afterlife is the most offensive movie I’ve seen this year. Oh, it’s bad.

It’s Wing Commander movie bad.

It’s Double Dragon movie bad.

It’s Uwe Boll bad.

Friday Flashback: Resident Evil 4
by Will Greenwald

I know Resident Evil 4 is only 5 years old. It still deserves its place as this week’s Friday Flashback for a very simple fact: it would be a far, far better purchase than a ticket to see Resident Evil: Afterlife. Currently Amazon has Resident Evil 4 for the Wii for just $12, and the PS2 version for just $10. Depending on where you live, that’s the cost of a movie ticket, or a movie ticket and some soda and popcorn. If you were planning to go see Resident Evil Afterlife this weekend, don’t. Use that money to get this great game instead.

And yes, a review for that cinematic debacle I witnessed this evening will be coming, very soon.

MMO the MMO: Debut Mega Man Online Trailer Hits
by Davis Emmanuel

The first trailer for Capcom and Neowiz’s Korean Mega Man Online is available for viewing. There is no gameplay, but the animated short very heavily conveys the feel of the MegaMan X franchise, with the destroyed, post-apocalyptic feel of the world and the apparent plot of robots going maverick. MegaMan X fans will note a figure that resembles Colonel from the fourth X game; other characters seen in the trailer include Roll, Bass, and Protoman.

This is not the first time Neowiz has working with a publisher to make an online version of a game. They previously worked with EA/DICE to make Battlefield Online which is based on Battlefield 2.

I love the fact that they used DrillMan’s theme and the background music.
