Artists Recording In Simlish for Sims 3 Late Night
"Simlish" is the official language of The Sims. It's what Sims speak instead of English, and it's going to be the language of choice for over two dozen pop, hip-hop, and alternative artists in The Sims 3 Late Night expansion and The Sims 3 Xbox 360
/PS3
/Wii
ports. The Sims 3 Late Night will be getting 18 popular music tracks in Simlish, while the console ports will get a whopping 21 songs, from artists like 3oh!3, Flo Rida featuring Jovi, Mickey Fatz, and My Chemical Romance. The songs will be rerecorded in Simlish, so Sean Foreman and Gerard Way will be crooning their bands' songs in vaguely French-sounding mumbling.
I'd honestly take offense at this, if anyone of the music was good. Fortunately, the tracks are all from autotuned pop bands with z's in their names, or guys like Souja Boy or My Chemical Romance. Incidentally, My Chemical Romance uses lyrics that are far too interesting and violent for the quality of music. They sound like a bunch of wussy douchebags, so why do they keep talking about things like murder and poison? Bah, kids these days. Let me know if George Fisher or Glen Benton re-record any of their bands' songs in Simlish.
Will GreenwaldMega Man Universe First Gameplay Trailer
Youtube user GrafWutzenstein has spliced together the gameplay trailers that were sent to IGN, 1UP, and GameSpot. The trailer showcases four of the multiple characters playable in game including MegaMan, RockMan (based on the Japanese boxart), a MegaMan based on the bad box art of the American version of the first game, and Ryu from Street Fighter. The game also includes Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins, though he is not in the trailer. Incidentally, the game looks very much like the stop motion trailer that was released previously. MegaMan Universe is coming out on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Store.
Dee SawyerScott Pilgrim vs the Review
To be perfectly candid, this may be the hardest review I ever write. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is easily one of my favorite franchises. I've bought all the soundtracks including the original movie score, the movie soundtrack
, the game soundtrack
, and the music from the trailers. I spent all day driving to various bookstores hoping someone had put out the last volume early. I've seen the film no less than four times. You could say I'm a pretty big fan of Scott Pilgrim. So the real question is: does this game hold up to the franchise from which it was spawned? Short answer: maybe.
DLC Double Shot: Bioware Releasing Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age DLC Next Tuesday
Bioware's releasing two DLC packs for their two biggest games, Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. Both drop on September 7 and will cost you $10 each. The trailer located above is for this year's critical darling and Game of the Year forerunner, Mass Effect 2. Titled "Lair of the Shadow Broker", this piece of DLC reunites Commander Shepard with one of the possible love interests from the first game, Liara T'Soni. The DLC will take you into the chambers of the mysterious Shadow Broker, a figure that had featured heavily in the periphery of the games and directly in the plot of the Mass Effect: Retribution comic book.
The trailer located after the jump is for last year's Dragon Age: Origins. Taking place after the end of Dragon Age: Origins, this will have you going after one of the party members and finding out just what they've been up to. Any more details would be a spoiler, so if you still haven't finished Dragon Age: Origins, I suggest you avoid the video.
Dee SawyerFrom the Game: Castle Crashers King (plus the first Aggrogate Giveaway!)
The Behemoth's fast-paced, cartoonish, insane beat-em-up Castle Crashers has finally hit PSN after over to years of being XBLA-only, and to commemorate the release the developer sent us The King. This figurine is 4 inches of regal, screaming, beardy rage. Find out how you can get your mitts on him after the bump.
Will GreenwaldThe Future of Motion Control: How To Improve It
This short video on Sony's blog demonstrates where the PlayStation Move is at in terms of development. Now that the Wii is about to turn four, Sony and Microsoft are both poised to make wigglin' and wagglin' major features of their consoles as well. The Wii's motion controls have failed to deliver on the promise of a total game-changing console. Despite this, the Wii has some real gems but games which actually utilize the motion controls well are few and far between. Today, most gamers still use thumbsticks, shoulder triggers, and face buttons for a majority of their games. Here are a few ways motion controls could finally make games better.
Matt EddyBioWare CEO discusses the lack of DA2 character creation choices
Speaking to VG247 at gamescom, BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka sought to assure Dragon Age fans that the absence of character creation options in Dragon Age 2 will not constrain the wide world of player choice BioWare's epics have become known for.
"Given that he is a human in this universe," Muzyka says, "that’s just the way this particular chapter in the Dragon Age universe is built. It’s built around him being a human, and hence your choices are a little more constrained at the beginning, but on the other hand that enables us to do a lot more other cool things as well, in terms of the way the narrative flows, and the other party members that join with you are really cool and interesting and diverse."
There has been some backlash toward this direction for Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age: Origins gave players the opportunity to choose their character's race, gender, and backstory, all of which helped determine how the story began and how people would react to the character. However, Dragon Age 2 takes a page from the Mass Effect series, plunking players down in the shoes of protagonist Hawke, who comes with his own fixed history. It's still unclear what, if any, benefits or changes save files from Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening might have on Dragon Age 2.
Matt EddyHands-on with LittleBigPlanet 2
The other day, Will and I were able to get some hands-on time with LittleBigPlanet 2 coming to Playstation 3. Though I've admittedly not played the first, the game has always been one that I've wanted to try because of just how fun it looks. And the sequel is very, very fun. The extra emphasis on fun comes from the forgiving nature of the game and the ultimate customization and creation of worlds.
Alt-history RPG Venetica headed to U.S.
A GameFly listing (via Siliconera) reveals that Atari is scheduled to bring German developer Deck 13's fantasy RPG Venetica to stateside consoles in January 2011. Originally developed in German for PC and Xbox 360 in 2009, Venetica was available only in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Fans elsewhere either brushed up on their Deutsch or went without.
Venetica takes place in a fictional sixteenth-century version of Venice, where heroine Scarlett discovers herself to be Death personified, finding herself in the middle of a struggle between the powers that control the natural - and unnatural - course of death. The stylish characters, cityscapes, customizable gear, morality system, and action-RPG mechanics are all reminiscent of the Fable series, but Venetica adds a twist with the use of the "Twilight world." It's a parallel dimension of departed souls where Scarlett winds up either by choice or when killed. It offers its own rules, abilities, characters, and quests, many of which have consequences in the world of the living. Deck 13 certainly talked a good game about the necessity of storytelling in RPGs and Venetica enjoyed both critical and commercial success in its native land, so this could be a post-holiday treat for early next year.
