You might be sick of the whole brony thing, but there are some good reasons bronies love My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and why it’s become so popular among men. I could talk about the excellent writing, the great voice acting, the fantastic animation, or the incredibly talented team doing the show, but these two frames speak for themselves. They’re from the episode The Cutie Pox, and once you see them, you’ll know why people like me love this cartoon.
These are pony versions of the Dude, Donny, and Walter from The Big Lebowski. I repeat, these are pony versions of the Dude, Donny, and Walter from The Big Lebowski. And yes, this scene takes place at a bowling alley.
But wait, Big Lebowski jokes aren’t new in cartoons. The Powerpuff Girls, which show creator and contributing producer Lauren Faust also worked on, had some Big Lebowski jokes. That’s true, but it didn’t have this:
The Jesus. Yes, a cartoon marketed toward eight-year-olds has a background character based on a character in a Coen Brothers movie who exposed himself to eight year old girls. These were purely sight jokes thrown in for all the bronies.
I love this cartoon.
