Pokémon is a case study in not messing with a good thing. Nintendo has issued a victory lap press release about the first day at the U.S. market for Pokémon Black and White, which broke the series single-day sales record by selling 1.08 million copies in 24 hours. The previous bar was set by Pokémon Diamond and Pearl at 780,000. Black and White sold a reported 2.6 million copies in Japan in its first two days, and was the fastest game to reach 1 million preorders there. These figures put it among the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which sold 5.6 million copies worldwide in its first day. To be fair, however, Black and White are two separate titles, and it’s likely a good number of folks are getting both.
