Capcom revealed four new playable characters for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 at the New York Comic-Con, plus some details about the general storyline, for those who need to try to make sense of seeing Iron Man punching Amaterasu in the face. Catch some video of the newcomers and other details after the break.

Rounding out the roster additions are Marvel villains Magneto and MODOK, alongside Ghouls ‘n Goblins hero Sir Arthur and the Bionic Commando reboot version of Nathan “Radd” Spencer. And while Magneto adds a satisfyingly sinister flair to his flashier moves…

…I’m calling it right now: MODOK is going to be the goofball character for whom it’s positively gleeful to issue a humiliating beatdown, while being on the receiving end will be the most teeth-grindingly infuriating moments of the game.

Look at him. Look at him! He looks like the most obese, scooter-driving Walmart patron you can imagine, reworked into a comic book villain who leads evil scientists in bright yellow beekeeper outfits. Now imagine getting torched in basketball by that guy in the scooter – doesn’t matter how freakishly talented he somehow is, it’s still going to stick in your craw.

On the Capcom side, we start off with Nathan “Radd” Spencer, in Bionic Commando’s grittier recent style. I noticed, with some amusement, the verbal barbs he trades with Iron Man just before the start of the fight.

I hope that means we get a good dose of matchup-specific dialogue. I get a kick out of little details like that.

Lastly, we have my personal favorite of the bunch, Sir Arthur of Ghouls ‘n Goblins. Younger readers may not recall him, but about a year before anyone of the Belmont clan started their feud with Dracula, Arthur was putting 8-bit monsters on the receiving end of his inexhaustible supply of throwable lances in a series of games that were made legend for sheer difficulty. Here’s a series that I’d love to see rebooted, so I’m glad it’s getting some love in the MvC3 roster. And Sir Arthur himself does not disappoint.

I’m loving just about everything about him. He goes after much larger and more fearsome foes with determination in his eye and an aggressiveness that you can’t help but root for. And, in contrast with fellow shorty and series fixture Mega Man, Sir Arthur has a deep, booming voice that sounds of adventure and asskickings. Knock his armor off? He’ll pummel your face in naught but his boxers. Anyone who delivers the word “Huzzah!” like that is a winner in my book. Besides, if Doctor Doom fancies himself bad news, he would be wise to note the sheer epic difficultly of opposition Sir Arthur survived during the course of his adventures. Dust your shoulders off, Sir Arthur.

Speaking of Doctor Doom, it would seem he’s been given the status of primary villain in the game’s storyline. Eventhubs reports that Doctor Doom and Resident Evil’s I-wear-sunglasses-at-night-and-indoors Albert Wesker have assembled a team of supervillains with the intent of conquering not one but two worlds. No idea if the Marvel and Capcom universes are supposed to be parallel dimensions or what, but does the pretense really matter? Rest assured the mightiest heroes from both worlds won’t miss the chance to form a super squad of their own and head off for a good ol’ fashioned air-comboing, super-move screen-filling, triple-teaming crossover ultra-brawl.

And finally, Siliconera has the scoop on Spider-Man’s alternate outfits, the first of such that have been revealed. Interestingly, they’re not mere palatte swaps, each suit shows a unique design, one of which is from an upcoming story arc in the Spider-Man comics. Maybe that means the rest of the cast will get unique wardrobe changes as well.
