New York Comic-Con has come and gone, and with it a deluge of swag. Most of the free stuff came from the game companies’ booths, eager to promote their newest titles to the kind of hardcore geek crowd that goes to these shows (myself included). What was the full extent of the bounty of the booths? Find out after the break.
Capcom was hands-down the swag king this year, with a half dozen different souvenirs from its booth. They also had some of the weirdest swag. For Dead Rising 2, they gave away a zombie figure and small bobbleheads of Frank West and Chuck Greene. For Mega Man Universe, they had an inflatable knight’s lance. I don’t know how the two concepts are connected, except maybe for Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins in the game. For Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, they had a fake mustache. I really don’t know, but I’m not one to turn down a free mustache. For We Love Golf, they had little golf bag keychains.
Then there was Sengoku Basura: Samurai Heroes. Not only did they give away t-shirts, they gave away samurai flags. Not only did they give away t-shirts and samurai flags, they gave away two different styles of shirts and flags, representing the Tokugawa and… another group I don’t recognize. Capcom held a little “war” during the convention, letting people choose their sides and walk around the con with their shirts and flags.
Nintendo had Golden Sun: Dark Dawn t-shirts (top photo, on the left), plus these neat Kirby’s Epic Yarn patches. Nothing really special, but t-shirts and patches are always great. Some day I’ll get a denim jacket and actually put on all of the patches I get at cons.
Rockstar gave away Red Dead Redemption playing cards. These are actually the same cards you can purchase from Rockstar’s online store, which is pretty cool. It’s a shame they didn’t give away the Red Dead Redemption dynamite candle, but that probably would have caused far more problems than some cards.
That didn’t stop Hudson, which gave away these Bomberman inflatable mini-volleyballs/bombs. Yes, on the other side of the logo, they’re stylized to look like cartoon bombs. Of course, Hudson gave them away in folded packets, so it’s not quite as intimidating as a huge wax bundle of dynamite.
It was a pretty good show.
