LittleBigPlanet 2 CE features plush Sackboy, bookends, and Gonzo
This is how you justify charging extra cash for a collector's edition. Sony has announced that LittleBigPlanet 2 is getting a great-looking version of the game that could end up end up being the must-buy edition for fans. It won't have a making-of DVD, art book, or any of that filler junk we don't care about. Instead, the LittleBigPlanet 2 Collector's Edition will include two big pieces of merch and a load of "exclusive" DLC gamers might actually find valuable.
The edition comes with a 7-inch Sackboy plush, so you can finally have your own little adorable, button-eyed whimsy machine. Usually a big feelie like that would be enough for any collector's edition, but LBP2CE will also come with a set of LittleBigPlanet bookends sized for PS3 games. Considering each item would probably retail for at least $15 if sold as separate merchandise, the $80 asking price for the collector's edition is surprisingly reasonable.
That's not all the edition comes with, though. It also includes every vendor-"exclusive" preorder DLC costume. Without the collector's edition, you'll have to decide whether you'd rather have Ratchet and Clank costumes (Amazon), a Toy Story 3 alien costume (Best Buy), or a TRON Legacy "Clu" costume (Gamestop). The collector's edition includes all of those costumes, plus four animal costumes, edition-specific Jak and Daxter costumes and Gonzo from the freaking Muppets.
The only way they could make it better would be a talking Stephen Fry bobblehead and a half dozen developers to make custom levels for you. LittleBigPlanet 2 ships on November 16.
