I don’t know what this is, but it’s all over the blogosphere today. A mysterious teaser trailer with no information besides the title has surfaced, and it looks just a bit too good to be a fan film. It’s a Mortal Kombat vignette, showing Jax (Michael Jai White) and Sonya (Jeri Ryan) talking to a shackled Scorpion about a mysterious underground fighting circuit. It looks like a re-imagining of Mortal Kombat with a much less mystical and much grittier, dare I say Nolanesque style.

I fully expect to learn more next week at E3.

UPDATE: According to Jeri Ryan, the video was a short film created by director Kevin Tancharoen to pitch a new Mortal Kombat film to Warner Bros. No game is being announced at E3, and WB hasn’t yet responded to the video. Considering the buzz it’s generated, maybe WB will take a second look at the prospect of a reboot.
