Mario Kart Klik Candies

The container: It’s basically a cylindrical Pez dispenser that uses a spring-loaded swinging arm instead of a lever to push out the candies. A good flick can send the candies launching a few inches, but it is a bit more prone to jamming. Each dispenser features a kart and driver mounted on the top. The karts are a hard plastic with rubber wheels that spin, and rubber drivers (Mario or Yoshi) that sit glued in their seats. The best part about these candies is that you can give the kart a turn and simply take it off of the dispenser to use it as a little toy car/desk decoration/choking hazard.

The candy: The candies are exactly the same as the Wii Klik candies: Smaries under a different name.

Coin Candies

The container: The candies come in a metal question mark box, based on the Mario 3 design. The question marks on the sides of the box are embossed, but otherwise it’s just a very nice yellow and white paint job. The lid stays on very securely, and is almost impossible to notice when it’s on. It’s a much better question mark block than the Snerdles container.

The candy: This time, the candies are actually as Mario-themed as the container. They’re yellow Sweet Tart-like candies engraved to look like Mario coins. It’s a really simple design, just a raised rim and a long notch in the center, but that simple touch really makes the candy look like coins from Mario games. Even if you like Sweet Tarts, you’ll probably get sick of the candies halfway through the box; each box comes about 2/3rds full of the candies, and they’re all the exact same color and flavor. Even though the texture and design is unique, it’s easy to get bored by them.

Wii Gum

The container: It’s a Wiimote-shaped candy tin, about the same size as the actual remote. It’s easily recognizable and the paint job is decent, but it feels very flat and boring. After the amazing facsimile the Wii Clik candy dispenser presents, I’m unimpressed by this simple metal-and-paint candy box.

The candy: Chicklets. Seriously, that’s all they are. Retangular bits of peppermint gum. They’re pretty much the most boring (though useful, if your breath stinks) candy on this list.

Mario 3-Dees Gummies

The container: These Mario gummies are the only Mario candies on the list that don’t give you something neat to keep when you’re done chewing. They come in a plastic wrapper and sit in a flimsy plastic tray. Just toss them out when you’re done.

The candy: The surprisingly flavorful gummies are molded to look like Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong. Each pack comes with two Yoshies and one each of the other three characters. They’re large, chewy, and remarkably detailed considering they’re basically giant Nintendo gummi bears. Details like Donkey Kong’s tie and the M in Mario’s hat are legible in the candies. Unfortunately, the colors are a bit schizophrenic; you’re just as likely to get a green Mario and a red Yoshi than you are the other way around. You can pretend that green Mario’s Luigi, but… well, there’s an M on his damn hat!
