Steam finally coming to the Mac with TF2, Portal, and L4D2.

Mac owners have lived in the video game ghetto ever since the days of DOS, and Valve is now working to balance the scales. The company has announced that Steam is finally coming to the Mac.

The Mac version of Steam won't let iMac and Macbook owners enjoy every game in Steam's vast library, but it will offer Valve's own prodigious catalog, including Team Fortress 2, Portal, Left 4 Dead 2, and the Half-Life series. The new system will also let third party publishers release games for both platforms over Valve's service. Mac developers will be able to use the same Steamworks APIs as Windows developers. Gamers who own both platforms will also be able to play their purchased games on Mac or Windows via a new feature called Steam Play, which should be both handy for customers and potentially devastating to productivity for gamers with a PC at home and a Mac at work.

That's not the only Apple-friendly news. Portal 2 will get the distinction of being Valve's first simultaneously-released game, hitting both PCs and Macs at the same time this holiday season. Better invest in a 2-button mouse, Mac gamers.
